Down the Hole [11/27/01]

Consider the theory that when a Black Hole is formed, a brand new universe is spawned at its center. That would make galaxies into "Universe Factories". Even more interesting is the logical extension that OUR universe must have been created by a black hole in another universe.

If our universe is the product of a black hole of another universe (i.e. we live "inside" a black hole), this means that matter from this other universe will be constantly flowing into our universe. Of course at the black hole center, this matter transforms into something else, but the energy is still conserved, and pumped into our universe. I think this results in producing phenomenon such as Dark Matter or the Zero Point Energy. Or maybe this is why the universe is expanding? (my astrophysics is a bit rusty). To put a finer point on that, it is SPACE itself that is actually doing the expanding. I suppose space expands relatively more where there is little matter. This explains why WE are not observed to be expanding; We don't appreciably expand proportional to the observed galaxies hurtling apart at millions of miles an hour. Where matter is concentrated, the space-expansion is reduced (the energy is instead shunted off to "generate" or sustain the matter).

When our "parent" universe/black-hole (notice the light/dark polarity) gave birth to us, the black hole would have undergone explosive compression. The threshold of matter density would be reached and POW! The collection of matter suddenly collapses into another dimension, forming the black hole (our universe). We "observe" this event "from the inside" as our Big Bang. But as the matter reserve gets consumed in the parent galaxy, the expansion of the baby universe slows down. We would observe this as the slowing of the expansion of our galaxy.

Time is the result of the perception of the rate of change of the world around us. In the 21st Century Earth, Time is moving quite quickly. Out in deep space, Time doesn't really exist much. That is why the famous astronauts in a sub-lightspeed ship can travel to Alpha Centauri and not age as much as expected (admittedly, this is a somewhat strange angle to view this classic result of time dilation during space travel).

As the rate of change in our human experience approaches asymptotic levels, Time will become infinitely large/compressed in this local part of our universe. The effect on the human mind and our emerging global consciousness is unknown. (That is when you bring in the battalion of contemporary philosophers and Terence McKenna junkies ;) But this phenomenon will also have a physical manifestation in our local part of space (the Earth). Could this be yet another method of forming black holes? The standard method is when a huge ball of gas gets too big then collapses. Perhaps our universe seems so advanced and fine-tuned in its own laws because it has been properly groomed by "universal natural selection"; This is why our universe is capable of forming life--we are the result of natural selection on a universal scale as well as a biological scale (the obvious chicken-egg observation is that if a universe wasn't structured to form life, there wouldn't be anyone to notice!). Since this life process allows for more black holes than a "barren" universe, a "life-friendly" universe like our own will be "selected for" since it can produce many more offspring. If in fact there are an infinite number of universes, if you were to take a random sampling of universes, the vast majority of them would be life supporting universes. Therefore, life is practically everywhere throughout Reality, creating an infinite community of beings who exist "out there"... somewhere and somewhen...

The "interior" of a black hole is the non-local continuum, where all points in space and time exist simultaneously (spatially & temporally). Thus this "interior", beyond the event horizon, is the common bridge between all universes throughout Reality. I imagine that this realm is linked to Terence McKenna's self-transforming machine elves, the bizarre landscapes often accessed through the leaves of Salvia Divinorum, the source of the mystic's perception of wholeness and Unity, and also the unknown where "you" fuse with upon death.

The entire universe is a gradient of consciousness. Some parts of the cosmos are more conscious/aware/self-reflective. Humans are (locally) the most conscious part of our universe. But the quantum void of the black hole represents the ultimate meta-consciousness of all experience. It is what many would call God, in the sense that it is the generative force that underlies all of Reality and all universes.
